Winter in the mountains

For enthusiastic snow sports enthusiasts and winter romantics, there is much to experience in Alpenwelt Karwendel.
Benefit from the region's favourable location to the Upper Bavarian skiing areas such as the Kranzberg ski paradise in Mittenwald, Zugspitze or
Hausberg-Kreuzeck-Alpspitze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Ski mountaineering greats such as Rosi Mittermaier and Christian and Felix Neureuther have already trained there.

The Austrian ski alpine resorts such as Roßhütte in Seefeld, Kühtai or Axamer Lixum can also be reached quickly by car,
to spend a great day of skiing there with the whole family.

Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and

With a wonderful distant view, you can let the snow dust away on the perfectly groomed slopes with modern lifts. 
When your legs start to get a little tired, take a break in the alpine huts and relax in a deck chair with sunshine and Kaiserschmarrn.

Experienced ski instructors accompany you and professionally and patiently teach beginners and advanced skiers how to handle the boards.

On the perfectly groomed cross-country trails between the villages of Alpenwelt Karwendel, you can really let off steam with skating or classic cross-country skiing. These were carved into the rock by the mountain streams over thousands of years and offer their visitors a spectacular natural spectacle in winter as well as in summer. 

The natural ice rinks in Wallgau and Krün invite you to skate, play ice hockey and curling.

At carnival time, the Maschkeran in Werdenfelser Land are particularly spectacular. Witches, devils, bell ringers and other wild creatures take on the winter. They drive the cold season out of the valleys with lots of noise and frightening masks, called larvae here.

At traditional village festivals, the Almabtrieben in autumn with farmers' markets and the Christmas markets at Advent, you can immerse yourself in the way of life of the village population and experience agriculture, handicrafts and specialities of the region. You can safely leave your car at home for the whole holiday. The free regional bus takes you comfortably through the entire Oberland between Steingaden and Tegernsee. 

A wide variety of events take place in Alpenwelt Karwendel throughout the year.

Munich is located about a hundred kilometres north of Alpenwelt Karwendel and is easy to reach by bus, train or car. Experience the special flair of the Bavarian capital not only at the Oktoberfest. The city offers you numerous events all year round. 

Don't miss the Oberammergau Passion Play 2022. This only takes place every ten years and had to be postponed in 2020 due to the corona virus crisis. The whole town is in a state of emergency for the 42nd time from May to October 2022 and impressively shows the suffering and death of Jesus Christ in the performances.
